"Mainstay Entertainment Producing Doc On Tennis Star Aleksandra Krunic"
Mainstay Entertainment will begin filming a documentary about tennis star Aleksandra Krunic on April 8 with the goal of exposing what it is really like to be a professional athlete who is also an international, global star. In thinking about last week's reading from Dyer about the star body, I think star athletes present and interesting case on how the star body circulates in society. When we see an athlete such as Krunic perform on the court, we see a performance. From her attitude and mannerisms in practice settings to her actual match, we see an image of her that is a performance largely focused on her body, physicality, and abilities.
Her image as a star is interconnected with this idea and is not idependent. She is a star largely because of these aspects of body, physicality, and ability. She is "tennis star" Aleksandra Krunic. She is physically toned, agile, and an extremely skilled tennis player. As a fan, this is what one would know about her, in addition to what her and her publicist decide to disclose, and perhaps any further information that is "leaked" through social media.
This documentary is going to show us a different side of her star body and image. A life of her as an athlete away from the lights, medals, competitions, and interviews. As author Justin Kroll says, the project will "highlight the antithesis of the global star on, and more importantly, off the court" (Kroll).
