Hi all! I hope you all had a chance to watch the SAG Awards last Saturday evening. It was quite a show! I was so impressed with how they decorated the theater with all the beautiful lanterns hanging from the ceiling and the wood accents on the stage. 

Did anyone else stand behind the fence on campus to watch the stars arrive or leave the SAG Awards? Amidst the crowd of other excited USC students and celebrity fans, I had the honor of spotting the one and only Pedro Pascal after his SAG Award win for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series, The Last of Us. It was so fun to watch the show from my apartment just down the block from the Shrine theater, then run out to watch the stars leave for the after party in an entourage of black Cadillac Escalades. We also saw lots of other notable starts from behind the fence on Jefferson street including Anne Hathaway, Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Allen White, Cillian Murphy, Lisa Ann Walters, Elizabeth Debicki, and President of SAG-AFTRA herself, Fran Drescher. Everyone seemed so excited and it was wonderful to witness so many people together celebrating the incredible screen actors in many of our favorite films and shows. 

Everyone in the crowd was so excited and many of the stars interacted with us, waving, dancing, blowing air kisses, or even saying something back. There were also many other guests such as show crew and makeup artists who attended the show that were walking into the gate we were all gathered. All the students cheered for them equally as much as they cheered for the stars. It was so wonderful to see the comradery among students and guests of all kinds. I had such a fun and memorable night with other USC students spotting stars so close to our home base!

               Let me begin by acknowledging that while it is true that I have loved Taylor Swift’s music for well over a decade, I do not believe my feelings for Swift limit my ability to objectively analyze her career in an academic setting.                As we’ve discussed before, our class’s content has matched up perfectly throughout the course of the semester with occurrences in the world of popular culture—from Beyoncé’s release of Cowboy Carter to Jennifer Lopez’s iconic interview revealing her go-to bodega order (if you know, you know). For this final week, I find it fitting that we are talking about influencers, sandwiched in between Coachella Weekend 1 and Coachella Weekend 2. Not only is Coachella the biggest music festival in the US, but it is also a feeding grounds for companies to advertise their products through sponsoring influencer’s trips to the festival. Most influencers like Madeleine White and Alix Earle attend Coachella as brand ambassadors, acting as the face of a specific companies.
