Celeste Oon - Supplemental Post #3
Hi all! Not exactly a celebrity sighting, but I thought I would take a moment to talk about my experience as a Celebrity & Influencer Engagement Intern at the ACLU last summer. Most of the work that I did focused on reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and systemic inequality. My old coworker texted me last week with an update on a project that I initiated: I coordinated a collaboration with Roe V. Bros, an account that blends humor with facts to educate people on reproductive rights and bodily autonomy. You can check out the video here (TikTok/Instagram)! I mostly worked with influencers during my time there, but I did handle some behind the scenes work for our projects with more traditional celebrities. It was really interesting working with talent in a variety of capacities—what I naively did not anticipate, however, was how difficult it would be as well. From coordinating with various talent management teams and communicating internally with staff to move things forward, to just figuring out logistics to begin with, it was a lot. But I love what I was able to accomplish!
I attached a photo of one of the accomplishments I am most proud of—helping organize programming for the National Advocacy Institute, an annual program for high school students that teaches them about social justice advocacy. We organized a panel of activist influencers for them, and it was really a treat to watch everything come together!
And at this point, I might as well share another ongoing project from our team: ACLU’s Banned Books series, which features celebrities like Randall Park reading banned books and advocating against classroom censorship.
All this to say that I miss my team and they continue to do great work! Lots of good folks at the ACLU.
